Benefits Canada — Employers are adapting employee benefits to the diversity of their workforce 

Employers are increasingly redesigning benefits and pension plans to reflect changing workforce demographics, from caregivers and part-time employees to multigenerational workforces, says Francis Boulianne, principal of health and benefits at Normandin Beaudry. 

“We’ve seen expanded scope when it comes to traditional benefit programs,” notes Boulianne. “Caregivers have been more front and centre in the last few years.” 

The growing focus reflects the challenges many caregivers face. According to a 2026 report by the Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence, 77 per cent of caregivers said caregiving had negatively affected their well-being, while 49 per cent reported experiencing financial strain.
