Young Caregivers Collective of Canada

Young Caregivers Collective of Canada (YCCC), formerly Young Caregiver Council of Canada, is an advocacy community created by and for young caregivers. We centre lived experience and storytelling for education and change.

At least 1.5 million young people balance school, work, health, and their own personal lives while also supporting a family member and/or close friend. Despite this, young caregivers are significantly overlooked and under supported.

YCCC believes that young caregivers’ stories and experiences should guide conversations and decisions about them. YCCC serves as a meaningful community of young caregivers who are engaged in decision-making and action across Canada.

YCCC welcomes all young caregivers between the ages of 14 and 30.

YCCC was founded by Rebekah Gold and the Young Caregivers Association to mobilize the stories and wisdom of young carers across Canada. As an in-house program of the Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence, YCCC will continue to build on its growing momentum around recognition and resources for young caregivers all while expanding their reach, deepening their impact, and strengthening community-driven advocacy efforts.

Young Caregivers Shaping Change

YCCC is making an impact in many ways, including:

  • Engaging young caregivers in action related to the development and expansion of research, practice, and national policy
  • Building education and awareness about the experiences of young caregivers in Canada
  • Partnering with academic institutions and other organizations across Canada to advocate for greater support for young caregivers
  • Elevating the wisdom and stories of young caregivers in Canada
